The following is a 12-month seasonal and holiday promotional marketing calendar. If your business is about seasonal products or services, then keep this marketing calendar close, so you can refer to it throughout the coming year when forecasting your promotional messages.

By no means is this list exhaustive, and you should add to it based on your industry and related activities. There are many holidays throughout the year that may be a natural tie-in with your product or service, such as National Book Week in January, if you’re an author or editorial-related service or American Heart Month in February, if you sell health-related services or products.

This calendar list focuses on the major holidays when most Americans have been trained to spend extra money or participate in a ceremonial activity. Generally speaking, you want to link your marketing promotions to a time of year just prior to when customers have their wallets out. Getting that First Date: Initial Contact

To meet and date someone new, you have to make intial contact.

Attempting to make initial contact for getting that first date with someone that we are attracted to is perhaps one of the most scariest things you can do for many of us. How many times have you been attracted to someone and just didn’t have the courage to make that first step? Oh well, another missed opportunity, and another weekend alone. The truth of the matter is that we have the opportunities to meet that special someone everyday. All you have to do is let them know. Follow these 4 steps to increasing your chances of getting to know someone you are attracted to.

1. Using Eye contact to make first contact

The power of eye contact should never be discounted. Without that first eye-to-eye contact, your chances of meeting that special person is going to be a dismal failure. He looks at you. You look at him. You look away. You look again. He looks at you again. You smile. He smiles back. And so on… The Eye Contact Game is one of the best ways to get things rolling, and to find out if there is a possible interest. He who looks away first loses.

So Men, keep your eyes on her until she looks back. Now is not the time to be timid…. and maybe, if she smiles, you are in there!  Now is the time to approach her in a non-intimidating way and introduce some casual conversation. The easiest way is to say: ” Hi! My name is Mike. What is yours?” And say something nice about her. Compliment her by saying something about her hair, about her smile, or say something about the color that she is wearing, or her make up. Whatever you find nice and feminine about her appearance. This is a great way to get something going if you have just met…say at the grocery store or inline at the DMV.

If you know the person, or have met before, try saying something nice about HER/HIS personality. Not on a physical level, but on a mental level. Is she intelligent? Did you notice that she is sweet? Did you notice that  how strong his values are? Do like that? Well then, go ahead and say it. The impact is worth the effort

2. Smile. It’s the simplest way to build trust.

Not many people do this and this transforms that way we are perceived. I saw once on TV. A National Geographic show of a monkey in the African jungle; two males were fighting to get a female and to stop the fight, one had to show his teeth to the other one. For us human, smiling has an emotional impact that could lead to dramatic effects on our lives. It is a purely instinctive act that will grab HIS/HER attention.
Practice Smiling at Complete Strangers: Smile to at least 5 strangers everyday, even if the person is not attractive to you. Be careful not to look as if you were “simple of mind”. Just like a glance, a brief smile by looking in the eye and let go.
Make smiling a habit until it becomes second nature to you. You will be surprise of the impact that you will have on other. Smiling is inviting and soon enough, it will become a reflex that can take you go far in life. I know one co-worker who got a promotion because the upper management thought he was a candidate with the skills to do the job, but also because he seemed like someone with whom it is easy to get along with.

3. Introduce a conversation that will engage your audience.

The easiest way to introduce a conversation is to ask a question. Then, follow it with a short amusing story about the situation. For example, if you are at the grocery store and you see that cute girl near the peas section, excuse yourself and ask her what she would recommend. After she has answered, follow by a joke you have seen on TV or something that happened to you about peas when you were younger. Laughing or make a person laugh is a quality that you have to develop. Be prepared in advance. Remember your speech class in school. Use your mirror, or your brother or sister for feedback. Don’t be shy you can do it.

Don’t allow rejection to paralyze you. Let’s be realistic, you are not getting that first date if you can’t take rejection. If they decline, say to yourself that there must be a good reason – they are already in a relationship or not ready to get involved yet, etc..- Move on to the next one. Don’t let one or two rejections prevent you from meeting that special person. If you don’t take charge of your love life, who will? Remember the old adage: “There are more fish in the sea.”

4. Your Call to Action: Offer your phone number, or as for their number.

If you are a Male, offering your phone number is the lowest pressure invitation because it leaves the decision to call in her court.  That way, no one is getting hurt. If you are a Female, ask the man for his number. Not only is it the safest way, but it will also stroke his ego. You can meet tons of people that way and be a “hot commodity”. The more you will have dates, chances are that you will feel better about yourself and you will become more attractive to the eyes of the others.

Say something like ” You seem like a nice person and I would like to see you again. How about a cup of coffee at Starbucks? Patience is a virtue right now. Don’t be too eager. Excuse yourself by saying something like, “ I don’t have much time right now, so may I leave you with my phone number so you can call me next week and we will arrange for meeting? It was very nice meeting you.” Then leave it at that. SHE or HE will call if they are interested. If not, MOVE ON!

You can invite that person early in the conversation and let that person decide if they will call you.  It is important that there is No pressure for anyone in the exchange. Imagine if you do that to 3 people per week, chances are that you will have a busy dating life. You will make all of your unhappy married friends envious.
